On Thursday Oct 18 of the Heineken City Arts Fest, Yasiin Bey had a headlining show at the Showbox SoDo with special guests: The Physics, Larry Hawkins, Thaddeus David, and DJ Swervewon. The venue was packed from wall to wall and everyone had a good vibe.
Seattle’s own, The Physics, are arguably one of the top respected groups in the NW hip hop scene. Their smooth sounding flow and catchy hooks had the whole crowd moving off their feet – the perfect warmup for the crowd as they anticipate Yasiin to hit the stage. Consisting of Thig Nat, Monk Wordsmith, and Justo, these talented individuals are just out to make some great sounding music by combining all types of different sounds and genres. Be sure to keep a look out for them next time they’re in your city. Also big shout out to Monk Wordsmith and Justo, looking fresh in your Seattle chapter gear!
Ever since he started in the game, Yasiin Bey, previously known as Mos Def, has proven to be an incredibly talented emcee that spits the truth and not be afraid to speak out. Having already done it all without anything left to prove, Yasiin walked in with his all white attire and his signature red mic to keep that old skool flavor. Rhyme after rhyme, the crowd kept cheering for more all the way through his entire set. The Pike Tribe also got to catch up with Bey after his set and his humble character meets with his high talent. A sure highlight night of the festival that everyone will remember for a long time.
